Stoke-on-Trent City Council was forced to revert its decision to close several public toilets in the city following a public consultation, which rejected the idea, a news report in the local media has revealed.

The local authority was looking at closing the toilet block in Stafford Street, Hanley, along with facilities in Stoke, Longton, Tunstall and Burslem in order to save £100,000 from next year’s budget.

Bristol mayor scraps plans to close down city’s public loos

Mayor of Bristol, George Ferguson, has scrapped plans to shut down 22 public toilets across the city, following a public consultation over which budget cuts should be implemented, a news report in the local media has revealed.

According to the paper, last year, the mayor put forward plans for cuts amounting to £83m from the city council’s budget, which included closing toilets and scrapping bus subsidies. But following a public consultation, nearly 20 of his budget proposals have now been removed or changed.

State-of-the-art toilets to be built on Exmouth seafront

The current sub-standard public toilets on the Exmouth seafront are going to be replaced in the near future with brand-new, state-of-the-art facilities, a brand-new report in the local media has revealed.

The Exmouth council has decided that the Queen’s Drive toilets opposite the Harbour View Café are costly to maintain and do not meet current British standard, and that replacing them altogether was the best possible approach.

Public toilets in Lostwithiel shut to the public

The Cornish town of Lostwithiel has been left without any public toilets after the town council failed to come to an agreement with Cornwall Council regarding their take-over, a news report in the local media has revealed.

The two parties had been in negotiation for almost two years about ownership of the toilets, plus the Cattle Market car park, which it leases from County Hall, and the old Market building, now home to a complementary health clinic.
