Public toilets on Mersea Island to stay open

The four public toilet blocks on Mersea Island have been saved from closure after West Mersea Town Council reached an agreement with Colchester Council, which runs the toilets, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.

Last month Colchester Council said it would stop funding public toilets across the borough to save cash.

Originally the town council said it could not afford to run them, but, after talks, an agreement has been reached.

Local council considers charging for access to public toilets in Middlesbrough bus station

A local council could decide to set up an access charge for some of its vandal-struck public conveniences, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.

Middlesbrough Council is currently undertaking a review of the vandalism-hit facilities in Middlesbrough bus station, on Newport Road and is “reviewing options” to help address anti-social behaviour at the toilets – which could see punters paying up to 20p for access.

Skegness public toilets closed after being hit by vandals

A local council was forced to shut down some of the public toilets in its area following a spate of vandalism, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.

The East Lindsey District Council has taken the decision to temporarily close the toilets in Tower Gardens, Skegness, but they will be reviewed ahead of the summer season. However, the council has assured the toilets will be opened for any events taking place in the town.

Public toilets in Newquay face closure following vandalism

Some of the public toilets in the Newquay area could be closed following a spate of vandalism that affected multiple public conveniences over the the festive period, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.

Newquay Town Council said repair works are currently being organised and that the council is monitoring all of its facilities closely to try to identify and catch the culprits.

Public toilets in Brynmawr to reopen following take-over by independent town councillor

Public toilets in Brynmawr have re-opened after being taken over by one of the town councillor’s private distribution business, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.

Independent town councillor Wayne Hodgins has been pursuing the opportunity to take charge of the public loos in the town after first submitting a proposal to Blaenau Gwent council in February this year.

Public toilets in Sefton could be closed under new council plans

Public toilets in Sefton are facing closure under new plans put forward by the local council, a recent news report in the local media was able to reveal.

The authority operates seven pay-to-use loos in the borough – five in Southport; on the Promenade, Eastbank Street, Hill Street, Park Lane and Preston New Road. Plus two more in the south of the borough, one in Blundellsands on Burbo Bank and another in Waterloo on South Road.

Work starts on public toilets in the centre of Bath

New public toilets are set to be installed at Parade Gardens in the centre of Bath, as part of Bath & North East Somerset Council’s plans to improve facilities across the local area, a news report was able to reveal.

The Council’s contract with Healthmatic Ltd will provide investment in cleaning and management services for 15 years, and means that 15 public toilets in parks, play areas, green spaces and key transport hubs will remain open and be improved.
