A toilet block in a popular holiday village will be closed, while the local authorities will charge for access to the other facilities, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.
Ongoing vandalism to public toilets in Chapel St Leonards has forced village councillors to consider closing a facility on South Road and to progress with plans to introduce charges on three other toilet blocks. It comes after the council boarded up toilets they maintain on South Road.
Chapel St Leonards parish clerk Mike Green said: "Someone ludicrously keeps kicking holes in the door. As soon as it is boarded up then they kick it again.
"It has got so bad the door is now completely demolished and it has caused a lot of mess inside.
"The toilets have been temporarily boarded up and at a committee meeting on Friday, it is now recommended to the full council to permanently close them – that decision will be made on July 11.
"We expect there to be public uproar but the toilets are not in the best condition anyway and because of the vandalism, it is costing a lot of money." Each facility costs around £10,500 to maintain.
Mr Green said the remaining facilities still makes Chapel St Leonards well served for public facilities compared to other coastal villages and said support was "overwhelming" to introduce charges on remaining facilities at the council’s annual parish meeting.
Installing a solid access restriction system is certainly the best approach by local authorities when faced with vandalism, and that’s exactly where Toilet Turnstiles could really puts its experience to good work.
Our toilet turnstiles are built from graded stainless steel, for easier cleaning and maintenance, and also come equipped with lockable lids to prevent unwanted access. Furthermore, the separate coin box offers very versatile mounting options, as it can be installed either in front of the
turnstile, at the side or alternatively, on the wall, with the cash box at the rear.
The turnstile’s coin mechanism can be programmed for virtually any combination of coins with a secure cash box to hold them, while the additional counters for the number of entries made will enable a thorough level of control over the system’s operation.
