Two sets of public toilets in Harrogate have been recommended for closure by Harrogate Borough Council (HBC) during a recent Overview and Scrutiny meeting, a news report in the local media has been able to find.
Following on from a six week public consultation, the council decided to close the toilets in West Park, Devonshire Place and Lupton Bank Glasshouses. The council will now demolish the Devonshire Place toilets and invest in nearby Stray Ponds toilets and close West Park toilets and invest in Library Gardens toilets.
Coun David Goode, chair of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee said there was a budget of £120,000 to make sure the remaining toilets in the district were up to scratch.
He said: “This toilet review has been ongoing for the best part of a year, it’s part of the money saving review so we get maximum value for them.
“The more important toilets will be kept up to standard and they will be open when they are needed to be open and remained a significant asset to the district.”
Charging a fee for access is the most sensible solution when it comes to public toilets’ funding, and this is exactly where Toilet Turnstiles could really puts its experience to good work.
Our toilet turnstiles are built from graded stainless steel, for easier cleaning and maintenance, and also come equipped with lockable lids to prevent unwanted access.
Furthermore, the separate coin box offers very versatile mounting options, as it can be installed either in front of the turnstile, at the side or alternatively, on the wall, with the cash box at the rear.
The turnstile’s coin mechanism can be programmed for virtually any combination of coins with a secure cash box to hold them, while the additional counters for the number of entries made will enable a thorough level of control over the system’s operation.
